A View of Strood

I am expecting to move home to Rochester within the next few months, saying goodbye to "Chateau John" after more than twelve years. It will be a sad time in some ways, but if I manage to secure the flat I am after, off Shorts Way near Borstal Village in Rochester, I shall have an elevated view over the River Medway looking toward Strood.

I am expecting to face new challenges and to experience fresh adventures in the new location; but whatever transpires I shall be nearer to the heart of…

Hi Chris and John, Thanks for the welcome. I was interested to find your group on Ning when I was searching for other Conservative groups in the UK. I have a London based group called "The Blue Room Forum" (www.thenewblue.ning.com) which is a group for like minded Conservative activists. During the last summer I have met a number of London wide conservatives on the Boris campaign and then over at Henley, and thought it would be good to stay in touch and keep learning after the election. Check out our group and let me know what you think, since it is easy to share members on Ning, perhaps we could make a reciprocal link?
All the best, Regards,
Tim

Hi John,

Sorry that we are not related, I was actually able to find the right John Ward and his sister Patricia who live in Rugby.

Tonight was the acceptance speech by Obama. I can't say that it was much different then all the diatribe that we have heard from the Democrats for the last 20 years. Sounds good, but when it comes down to it, it is big government programs, lots of taxation. My husband and I have a small business and are die hard Republicans, small government.

So, don't know if conservatism is the same in England as it is here but my dad brought me up to believe that the government was there to keep the country safe, and uphold the constitution but not to rule every other aspect of our lives.

Cheers! Barb

I have just tonight created a 'blogsite of my own, at Blogger. I have re-posted three of my 'blog posts from here to kick-start it.

Note that I hadn't intended to do this, but needed a Blogger ID to avoid any Labour trolls forging comments to appear to come from me when I post on other 'blogs such as Guido Fawkes or Iain Dale, as has happened to at least one other at the latter.

Then, once I'd done that, I thought: might as well post something...

Hi John, it was indeed a most pleasant day out where the hospitality and the openness with which you and your colleagues Chris, Gary and Ted welcomed prospective candidates were strangely at odds with the position of CCHQ. It reminded me so much of the time before computerised selection was introduced into appointments for medical training. Then, meeting and introduction were recognised and conventional preludes to selection.

It would be difficult not to understand how all this creates an urge to step forward and become involved with the constituency campaign, except that protocol would demand circumspection until it is appropriate to do so!

To be honest Mr Ward, Conservative, Lib Dem, Labour or whatever it may be called doesn't matter. It's just a name. It's the people that runs it. Are they in to do good for the nation or just to fill their pocket with as much as they can until someone else gets elected. People vote for these individual with hope that he or she will do something to help them out....HOPE Mr Ward, that's all we got. We need somebody to give this nation it's HOPE back and tell them to lift their head up and be proud of UK no matter what background you have. We need someone to work for the nation's goodwill. Too many false promises to get where they want to and once they are there, they forget how they got there. It's a bit like forgetting your parent, your mother or father. It's no different from a normal family. If we can't keep our house tidy then how are we going to help others? By sending soldiers to sort things out.....???? Using the Nations money create war and hatred. It's a joke! They need to start looking at what the people need right here and make good use of the finance. Families nowadays are disregarded, there is no incentive to have a family and they wonder why so much troubled families. Thing is they don't want to do anything about it. I can go on and on.

I don't know if I am like you but if you are then you must understand the frustration. And I for once want to do something about it. I don't know how but I will find a way.

Just to let you know...

The Forum discussion I started "Strood Has No Deprivation" also rang true in Twydall (as indeed I mentioned in that post) so I offered a "tweaked" version of it to Alan Collins, who lives there and whose blogsite is very good indeed.

It is almost unknown for me to re-use material this way, so I felt it right to let him know that -- exceptionally -- what I sent him was based on an article I had posted here just a few hours earlier.

I think that, if anything, the version there works even better, but feel free to check it out and decide for yourself:
