On the 65th Anniversary of the D-Day landings, it was disgusting to hear the sycophantic Brown refer to Omaha Beach as 'Obama Beach'. This man is a national disgrace to this country and the Labour ... Read More »

Mamma Mia...

As a lifelong ABBA fan, I've avoided this film like the plague since it was released. Don't ask me why because you would have thought that I would have been one of the first in the queue to see the movie, but...I dunno, in the back of my mind, I had this feeling th…

Making The Difference

Whilst other local Conservative members where out braving the chill winds from the Medway in Strood, I had the relatively easy gig of helping out for local charity MASH (Medway Asthma Self-Help)* at their Christmas fundraiser in Rainham.

When the call came I was more than happy to help out for such a deserving cause. I've actually come to the conclusion that it might be a good idea if the next Government actually made it a requirement that everyone should parti…

The Demise Of Woolworths

Anyone who has ever faced the threat of redundancy, as I have, can surely sympathise with the workers at Woolies today who will be worrying about what the future holds for them and their families. This will be further exacerbated due to the timing of Woolworths' demise during the run-up to Christmas. I can o

Hi Chris and John, Thanks for the welcome. I was interested to find your group on Ning when I was searching for other Conservative groups in the UK. I have a London based group called "The Blue Room Forum" (www.thenewblue.ning.com) which is a group for like minded Conservative activists. During the last summer I have met a number of London wide conservatives on the Boris campaign and then over at Henley, and thought it would be good to stay in touch and keep learning after the election. Check out our group and let me know what you think, since it is easy to share members on Ning, perhaps we could make a reciprocal link?
All the best, Regards,
Tim

I believe you have sussed this out quite accurately. It is how I have perceived it, though I am only a quarter Irish...

Once I am sure that all the actions that have been taken by the Union rep are over, I intend to blog on the whole business of (ab)using the various laws, rules and codes of conduct in pursuance of politically-motivated labelling and attacks on one's opponents.

As an Irishman, I can honestly say no, I don't think he is racist. I think he is unfortunately being tarred by those who choose to use the allegation of racism as a weapon. It's a way of silencing all debate on a subject and is lazy and, if it wasn't for the fact that such allegations are used in such a malicious way, it would be quite funny. I didn't take any offence from the joke I read that is attributed to Ken, and I don't really understand how anyone could, unless they have very skin thin indeed and/or they are using it for their own ends.

My God. I remember coming over here (England) in the early 80s and being told to live In Kilburn because we'd 'feel at home in Kilburn'. My late mother always answered that 'if we wanted to feel at home, we would have stayed at home'. I suffered all sorts of name-calling when I went to school, but it didn't bother me because that's all it was, names. I got on with my own life.

People have got to stop using the race-card in my humble opinion because it is constantly being used to distort the argument. It is lazy, and it is, too often, being used maliciously to silence debate and criticism.

Well, I already knew you had cheek :-)

By the way, I too have been Googling our Ken. You've now met him: do you think he is a racist? Don't answer if you don't feel comfortable doing so; but I'd be interested in your view of him or any of the others you have now met.

It can be useful to have a fresh view on those one has known for a few years, as our views can be clouded by that, and it takes a newcomer to see past all of that.

On that topic, you really will need meet "cuddly" Jane Etheridge one day. Trust me on this!

It was very enjoyable. Thank you, and all of the other members for making me feel so welcome. Looking forward to helping out in whatever way I can. See you on Saturday John.

Ps Been googling 'Ken Bamber'...fascinating stuff. I can't help wondering what a butcher from Preston is doing in the Strood Conservatives? Hell of a journey to make.
