Whilst other local Conservative members where out braving the chill winds from the Medway in Strood, I had the relatively easy gig of helping out for local charity MASH (Medway Asthma Self-Help)* at their Christmas fundraiser in Rainham.
When the call came I was more than happy to help out for such a deserving cause. I've actually come to the conclusion that it might be a good idea if the next Government actually made it a requirement that everyone should participate in some sort of community-based charity or organisation, because the sense of pride it gives you when you walk away at the end of the day really is something that money can't buy.
I honestly do believe that one of the great ills we have in modern society is that we are all getting more and more distant from each other. Instead of engaging more with our neighbours and sharing our joy and our pain, it is becoming all too common for people, afraid of what society is becoming, to pull up the drawbridge and disconnect themselves from those around them. It's a self-fulfilling prophesy and it is very sad to see and must be addressed, sooner rather than later.
Anyway, it seemed the day went quite well today as far as people coming through the door was concerned and hopefully MASH raised a fair bit of money (cross fingers). Well done to everyone who took the time to support the charity either by volunteering or simply popping through the door. Looking forward to the next one. If you are interested in getting involved with MASH, and need some more info see the bottom of the pis page.
