An analysis of Brown’s speech. The blue tongued one is really a red sheep in the Emperor’s clothing – all just the same, only more naked.
In his speech yesterday, Gordon Brown has pledged that unless contract cleaners in hospitals meet the highest standards of cleanliness they will lose their contract. What's the procedure at the moment, then? His party has had 10 years to clean them up. MRSA has quadrupled and our old and vulnerable are dying of C-dif, a hospital acquired infection.
Looking at his aspirations for Britain, it struck me that it is all more of the same. After ten years all the goals of 1997 are still the goals of 2007. Child poverty, social mobility, youth unemployment, basic literacy and crime are still unsolved problems. In some of these areas things have gone back, not forward - youth unemployment is worse, violent gun crime is higher.
Facts:
· 1 in 4 of our youngsters leave primary school without the basic requirements of literacy and numeracy
· Youth unemployment in north Kent is around 52% (16-17 year-olds)
· You cannot deport gun-toting criminals if they are from the EU – the EU won’t allow you
· 200,000 pensioners live below the poverty line
· The social mobility gap is wider than it has ever been
· He is bribing our troops in the Middle East with a £140 rebate on their council tax – too little, too late, Gordon, quite a number are dead and those that are still serving only earn £20,000 a year to lay their life on the line for us
· Britishishness – mentioned around 80 times in yesterday’s speech. How can you champion Britishness when you have presided over the break up of the Union? Devolved legislatures in Wales and Scotland do not answer the iniquitous West Lothian question, neither has he. To redress this and re-balance the United Kingdom, the English should have their own parliament, not English votes for English MPs
· And whilst he’s at it, he should be redressing the Barnett Formula – as discussed by Gary Etheridge.
Sorry Gordon and the media, you are no Tory and the Tory voters and middle England will see through you. Larger state, higher taxes and little to show for it.
